Along the Gulf of Mexico and west of Pascagoula, Gautier homes for sale are located within a  community that has grown considerably over the past few years. Named for Fernando Upton Gautier, who built a home here in 1867 and started a sawmill business, Gautier grew from the establishment of this business and the home still stands today. It is known by area residents as “The Old Place” and is owned by descendents of this early settler. The home is used today for public as well as private events. With a population of 16,457 in 2009, Gautier is considered a resort community. There are two championship golf courses and the area offers many opportunities for outdoor recreation. Growth in this area is expected to continue with a projected population of more than 22,700 by 2025. The community is bordered by wetlands and bayous on three sides as well as the proximity to the west bank of the Pascagoula River. The west bank is known to local residents as the “Singing River.”

Residents of Gautier are served by the Pascagoula School District. The Pascagoula School District was named one of the top 100 communities in America for young people by America’s Promise. Gautier schools have won the Bronze Medal from U.S. News & World Report as well as being listed in America’s Best High Schools in 2010 by U.S. News & World Report. The Jackson County campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College provides residents with options for higher learning.

Gautier was voted as one of the “Best Places to Retire” in 2009 by U.S. News & World Report. Gautier has more than 70 miles of waterfront. The way of life and tranquil setting of this community provides those who choose Gautier real estate with a number of amenities. It is considered a great place to start a business.

With the central location between Pascagoula, which has the largest industrial area within the state and Gulfport with a strong tourism industry, there are many high-paying jobs in the area.
