D’Iberville Real Estate
D’Iberville real estate is located in an area that was originally a part of an unincorporated section of North Biloxi, Mississippi. Settled mainly by farmers and trappers – including Native Americans – the city was incorporated in 1988. This is a city with a rich history. The city was named for Pierre LaMoyne Sieur D’Iberville. In 1699, D’Iberville was in France when King Louis XIV authorized an expedition to the area known as Louisiana. It was so named by the explorer LaSalle. D’Iberville was chosen to head this expedition. Their task was to create a stronghold on the Mississippi River, allowing France to reinforce its claim on the Louisiana territory. What is today the location of D’Iberville real estate was this territory that was known as Louisiana. Part of the exploration’s purpose was to block the entrance of the Mississippi River from adversaries.
After arriving in the area that is today known as Ship Island, D’Iberville and his men waded ashore. Three months of exploration included areas from Pascagoula to Bay St. Louis. Where D’Iberville real estate is located today was explored by D’Iberville and his brother and they found the area “very beautiful with pine woods, mixed with trees of other kinds in spots” as well as sandy soil everywhere.
Over the years, this area was known by many names and in the 1920s when the school district used the name D’Iberville, it became more widely used. Descendants of early settlers brought here by D’Iberville in 1699 still live in the area. With a population of approximately 8,951, as of 2009, D’Iberville saw many changes when the Back Bay Bridge was completed in 1973. This linked the cities of D’Iberville and Biloxi as well as promoting industry. This included fishing and boat building.
There are a variety of choices when it comes to D’Iberville homes for sale including single family homes, townhouses, condominiums, luxury homes and new construction. The area enjoys a lower cost of living than many other areas in the U.S. With the location and proximity to the cities of Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Gulfport and New Orleans, Louisiana, there are numerous job and recreational opportunities including many outdoor activities.
