The temperature outside may feel like the middle of summer, but for parents, students and teachers it’s time to get ready to head back to the classroom. School registration is open at most school districts around the MS Coast and supply lists are posted online and in area stores. Check out the list below for specific school district registration information. While you’re out buying school supplies, keep in mind that there are many children that will not be able to pick out that perfect binder or those extra colored pencils. The United Way sponsors a “Stuff the Bus” campaign to allow shoppers to purchase a few extra things for students struggling to complete their supply list. If you don’t see a drop off box at your local store, remember that you can always grab some extra supplies and send them to your child’s teacher. Most teachers are out buying extra supplies right now to make sure every child starts out ready to learn. Any extras you can purchase will make a difference for someone in your child’s classroom! Speaking of shopping, it’s time to plan the back to school outfits! The Mississippi Sales Tax Holiday will take place on July 29th and 30th. The tax holiday covers clothing less than $100 per item with certain exclusions. Remember that the sales tax holiday only applies to certain types of clothing and does not include accessories such as bags, backpacks, purses or jewelry. Additionally, school supplies are not eligible for the sales tax holiday.
