The Christmas on the Bayou parade began in December 2000. It has grown from fewer than twenty decorated boats to being recognized as a Top Twenty Event in the Southeast United States. In just a few years this small neighborhood parade has grown into a favorite local event.
Christmas On The Bayou is a unique event because not only do the boats decorate and participate in the lighted parade but the waterfront houses also compete to be named the Parade Captain's Best House on the Bayou. Completely organized and presented by neighborhood volunteers and community donors, Christmas On The Bayou is the only waterfront parade in Gulfport.  This neighborhood parade gives everyone an up close and personal view of the boats.  Public viewing is available at Gulfport boat launches, parks, and waterfront restaurants.
