Kent was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico but spent his childhood sharing time between Manhattan, New York City and Puerto Rico. Growing up in a bilingual home allowed him to become fluent in English and Spanish. Once Kent finished high school in Puerto Rico, he joined the Air Force, which he turned into a twenty-five year career, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. Kent spent most of his time in the USAF as a computer programmer and communications/IT manager. While in the Air Force, he met the love of his life, Laurri. They married in Ocean Springs, Mississippi in 1993. The Air Force gave Kent a tremendous opportunity to travel overseas. He lived and worked in Korea, Japan, England, and Turkey. While stationed in the U. S., Kent lived in Texas, Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico, Mississippi, and Alabama.
While in the Air Force, Kent also pursued his higher education. He has earned associate degrees in Photo Technology and Management Information Systems from the Community College of the Air Force, and Bachelors Degree in Resource Management and an MBA from Troy University in Alabama.
After retiring from the Air Force in 1996, he and Laurri moved to Houston Texas. Kent found a job as Production Line Manager for Dreyers/Edys Ice Cream company. While only there for a short three years, he was a major contributor to the rebuilding of the Houston Distribution Center. His efforts at Dreyers, earned him Employee of the Year honors, and induction into the Dreyers/Edys Hall of Fame.
Kent left Dreyers in 1999 and started working for a nationwide homebuilder, USHome as an IT specialist. The company was subsequently bought out by Lennar Corporation and became the second largest production homebuilder in the U.S back in the early 2000s. While at Lennar, Kent led and piloted a new construction management software rollout for use by the homebuilding construction manager.
